Yves Rossy's jetpack loops a hot air balloon, looks great doing it (video)

Looks like Swiss daredevil Yves Rossy is back to the, well, daredeviltry. On November 5, 2010, the self-described Jetman lept off a platform attached to the side of the Esprit Breitling Orbiter hot air balloon and, after reaching an altitude of 2,400 meters (7,874 feet), came back to loop around the thing twice. He was aided in his endeavor by a new, smaller wing (two meters across) with four jets, and executed the maneuvers using only his body movements to steer. Afterward, he deployed his parachute and landed in Denezy, in the Swiss canton of Vaud. We might also add that we tried to get one of these devices for an Engadget Show giveaway, but our lawyers seem to think it's a terrible idea. Video after the break.

Bacarobo 'stupid robot' contest is back, and it's hilarious (video)

Our love of tech, gadgets, and anything, really, with blinking lights means that while we certainly value usability and quality in our consumer electronics, there will always be a place in our hearts for the utterly useless. And we're definitely not alone here, as the popularity of the annual Bacarobo (stupid robot) contest will tell you. This year's event was held in Budapest, Hungary, and featured a number of the silliest robots you've never seen before -- all designed to get a laugh. The contest is judged in true hackneyed Gong Show-esque fashion with an applause meter, and the winner received a €2,000 ($2,700 USD) prize. And that's nothing to laugh at! But enough chatter: peep the video after the break to see for yourself.

Lenovo slips out 12.5-inch IdeaPad U260 ultraportable, hopes you'll notice

By Darren Murph posted Nov 9th 2010 7:57AM Well, what have we here? In the sea of me-too ultraportables, it looks as if Lenovo is doing its darnedest to mix things up with a somewhat unorthodox screen size. The leaked IdeaPad U260 hasn't been confirmed by the mother company, but word on the street has it rocking a 12.5-inch display, 0.71-inch thickness and a total weight of just 3.04 pounds. Naturally, it's living life sans an optical drive, and we're told that it'll ship with an Ultra Low Voltage Core i3 or Core i5 CPU. There's no ExpressCard slot, but you will spot a four-cell battery, Bluetooth 2.1, VGA / HDMI outputs, WiFi, 4GB of memory, a 320GB hard drive and a couple of semi-vivacious color options (Mocha Brown and Clementine Orange). Mum's the word on a price, but you can catch one more glimpse of the heretofore unannounced rig just after the break.

Forrester: e-book sales to hit nearly $1 billion this year, $3 billion by 2015

By Donald Melanson posted Nov 9th 2010 4:23PM There's no denying that e-books are already big business, and market research firm Forrester is now offering some pretty impressive numbers that show just how big it already is, and how much bigger it will get in the next few years. The firm surveyed some 4,000 people and found that while just seven percent of those actually read e-books, they still bought enough of them to translate to $966 million in sales this year -- a number that's projected to grow to $3 billion by 2015. As for the reading habits of that seven percent, Forrester found that they "read the most books and spend the most money on books," and that they read 41 percent of their books in digital form. That doesn't necessarily mean that they use actual e-readers, though -- a full 35 percent apparently do most of their e-book reading on a laptop, followed by 32 percent on a Kindle, 15 percent on an iPhone, 12 percent on a Sony e-reader, and ten percent on a netbook. Interestingly, but perhaps unsurprisingly, Kindle users seem to be the biggest boosters of e-books -- they do 66 percent of all their reading in digital form.

Cool Reasons to Buy the All New Kindle

Amazon has been one of the places to buy things online safe and quick. If you ask Amazon then each and every employee of the company would say the best product ever will be the Kindle e-book reader. I would say that kindle is the best e-book reader in the market now. It is becoming really hard now to keep things in a place and organize them properly around the corner. There are loads of paper stuffs coming out for everything so it really becomes a tedious job for you to organize things. I really forgot the place where I kept my last month phone bill and I am searching it still. Kindle e-book reader relaxes you from that kind of troubles as it makes things easy as ever.

One of the best products of Amazon is the all new Kindle which has stolen the hearts of many. The all new gadget has come up with a sleek design and brand new colors as well. The new colors make this one more adorable than its predecessor. The next best thing I love is the size of the machine as it is less when compared to its elder brother. It weighs only 8.5 ounces which helps me in holding it hands for hours when I read. You need not carry thousands of books to read hundreds of pages anymore as all can be brought inside the Kindle. If you want to connect to internet then the new one makes that for you as well. The 3G and WI-FI present helps is accessing the internet pretty easily and comfortably as well.

There is no doubt that this gadget is a must in each and every home. I would say that this machine will occupy the desk of each and every home in the year 2015.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 detailed: 512 CUDA cores, 1.5GB of GDDR5 on 'world's fastest DX 11 GPU' (update: video!)

It might not be November 9 all around the world yet, but NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 580 has already had its spec sheet dished out to the world, courtesy of CyberPower's seemingly early announcement. The new chip will offer a 772MHz clock speed, 512 processing cores, and a 192.4GBps memory bandwidth, courtesy of 1.5GB of GDDR5 clocked at an effective rate of 4GHz. CyberPower is strapping this beast into its finest rigs, and for additional overkill it'll let you SLI up to three of them within one hot and steamy case. Now let's just wait patiently for midnight to roll around and see what the reviewers thought of NVIDIA's next big thing.

Update: CRN has a $499 price for us and a recital of NVIDIA's internal estimate that the GTX 580 bests the GTX 480 by between 20 and 35 percent. It seems, however, that the embargo for this hot new slice of silicon is set for early tomorrow morning, so check back then for the expert review roundup.

Update 2: Lusting to see one on video? How about two side by side? Skip past the break for the eye candy [Thanks, Rolly Carlos!].

FaceIt-3GS brings FaceTime to your jailbroken 3GS

Ah, the beautiful, ever-useful jailbreak and the developers that make it worthwhile. It's already unlocked the magic of FaceTime over 3G, and now it's making FaceTime capable with any old iPhone 3GS handset (thanks to the iPhoneIslam Team, who did the heavy lifting). Of course, lacking a front facing camera, the resulting video chat might be a little short on faces, but the functionality certainly isn't hurting anybody. Right, Apple? Hit up the app on Cydia and start streaming to your heart's content, and if you're wary there's a demo video after the break.

How to Have Disruptive Ideas For Product Innovation

The British electrical plug was invented in 1946. It's the largest plug in the world. It comes from a time when computers filled rooms and radios were the size of kitchen units. The only time the average person carried an electrical gadget round with them was when they moved house.

Nowadays gadgets don't sit quietly in the corner. They expect three foreign holidays a year and come with us to work, rest and play. In return, they've been on a crash diet and what used to fill a room, now sits comfortably in your pocket.

So it's strange that it's only this year, that a designer won an award for re-inventing the venerable but massive British plug into something altogether more slimline and portable. Why did it take 64 years to invent a better one? More importantly, why didn't any of the rest of us have that idea?

Listen to what nobody says

Henry Ford once said:

"If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses"

Unvoiced customer needs are everywhere, but they're hard to find. No British customer has ever said to a product designer "I'd like a more portable electric plug please."

Instead the re-inventor of the British plug, designer, Min Kyu-Choi, had an experience. He scratched his MacBook Air laptop on its plug realising in the process that the world's thinnest laptop still uses the world's thickest connector.

Min Kyu-Choi had stumbled upon a disruptive idea by discovering an unmet, unvoiced customer need.

So how do you mass-produce disruptive innovation?

The simple answer is: have experiences, and reflect on them. Creating an innovative new product requires an inductive leap.

The best way to trigger an inductive leap is to have a direct experience. The easy part of that is that we all have experiences continuously. When my alarm goes off, that's a customer experience. When I get on the train, it's a customer experience. Buying my morning coffee - an experience. They all come bundled up with satisfaction and frustration.

The hard part is noticing the response rather than accepting the "how things are-ness" of it. One of the best ways is to keep a record of what happens - mark up every experience on a timeline and plot your emotional response. Not taking problems for granted is the first step towards great product design.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 reviewed: 'what the GTX 480 should have been'

You saw the key specs slip out a little ahead of time, now it's the moment we've all been waiting for: the GeForce GTX 580 has been thoroughly benchmarked to see if its claim to being "the world's fastest DirectX 11 GPU" stands up to scrutiny. In short, yes it does. The unanimous conclusion reached among the reviewers was that the 580 cranks up the performance markedly relative to the GTX 480 -- with some citing gains between 10 and 20 percent and others finding up to 30 percent improvements -- while power draw, heat emissions, and noise were lowered across the board. ATI's AMD's Radeon HD 5870 wasn't completely crushed by the newcomer, but it was consistently behind NVIDIA's latest pixel pusher. Priced at $499, the GTX 580 is actually praised for offering good value, though its TDP of 244W might still require you to upgrade a few parts inside your rig to accommodate it, while current online prices are closer to $550. Anyhow, the pretty comparative bar charts await at the links below.

New Product Launch - The Basics

Just about everyone with a great idea for a new gadget dreams of launching a new product in the mass market. It used to be a lot easier for a small company to launch new products than it is today. Years ago, a small company with a new product or idea could start with neighborhood retailers, first building a local customer base and then fanning out across the region, the nation, or the globe. But the retail landscape has changed tremendously with huge chains with thousands of outlets dominating the market today. Over the last 15 years countless small chains and independent operators have either been swallowed up by their larger rivals or just gone belly up because they couldn't compete with the behemoths. This makes it much more difficult for small companies to launch their products because a) there are fewer retailers to approach and b) there are thousands of companies competing for the attention of fewer and fewer buyers.

Twenty years ago, trade shows could often be a cost-effective way to introduce a new product to thousands of potential buyers but like retail, the trade show industry has seen a wave of mergers, acquisitions and drop outs. A lot of the trade shows that used to cater to the small- and mid-sized operations have seen their attendance dwindle and lots of them have just disappeared entirely.

For example, the North American Men's Sportswear Buyers (NAMSB) show used to be one of the biggest apparel trade shows in the U.S. but now it's gone. For years, NAMSB was the trade show that retailers of all sizes attended to check out the latest and greatest upcoming styles. It was also where some now-famous names got their start in the mass market. At a NAMSB show (many) years ago a friend wanted me to meet the owner of a new company that she knew was going to be hot. We walked up to a small booth staffed with just one guy showing off his new t-shirt designs-his name was Stussy and a year or so later his company took off. For him, the NAMSB show was the ideal springboard to success. Today though, there are fewer shows to choose from and they're a lot more expensive, making them a bigger gamble. So if you're thinking about doing a trade show you'd best be prepared to do your homework, invest some money and do it right or you'll be setting yourself up for failure.

What does this mean to a small business with a great product or idea? What it means is that yes, it can be tough to launch a new product in the mass market but it also means that a company can hit the big time a lot faster today than in the past. So what is the secret to selling to Wal-Mart or other large retailers? For the novice, the answer is that there is no easy answer-launching a product in the mass market is not for the faint of heart but it can be done. The answer lies in doing your homework:

Know your business-how are you going to produce the product and how will you distribute it? Do you have the capacity (production and financial) to meet the demands of the mass market?
Know your product-what sets your product apart from the competition? What makes it unique? What is its special appeal?
Know your retailer-where does your product fit in the store and how are you going to display it? Research your target vendors-what are they looking for in new products? What is their process for reviewing new vendors?
Know your customer-who is going to buy your product and why are they going to buy it?
Know your marketing plan-how are you going to get the word out about your product to your customers?

Knowing the answers to these questions will help prepare you and your company for successfully launching your new product in the mass market.

    Toy Story [VHS]

Toy Story [VHS]There is greatness in film that can be discussed, dissected, and talked about late into the night. Then there is genius that is right in front of our faces--we smile at the spell it puts us into and are refreshed, and nary a word needs to be spoken. This kind of entertainment is what they used to call "movie magic," and there is loads of it in this irresistible computer animation feature. Just a picture of these bright toys reawaken the kid in us. Filmmaker John Lasseter thinks of himself as a storyteller first and an animator second, much like another film innovator, Walt Disney.

Lasseter's story is universal and magical: what do toys do when they're not played with? Cowboy Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks), Andy's favorite bedroom toy, tries to calm the other toys (some original, some classic) during a wrenching time of year--the birthday party, when newer toys may replace them. Sure enough, Space Ranger Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) is the new toy that takes over the throne. Buzz has a crucial flaw, though--he believes he's the real Buzz Lightyear, not a toy. Lasseter further scores with perfect voice casting, including Don Rickles as Mr. Potato Head and Wallace Shawn as a meek dinosaur. The director-animator won a special Oscar for "the development and inspired application of techniques that have made possible the first feature-length computer-animated film." In other words, the movie is great. --Doug Thomas

    Licenses For New Inventions

New inventions in almost every field are pretty common these days. With the increase in intelligent and more radical approach to life a lot of people are turning their ideas into successful businesses. The process of inventing a product and its successful implementation is not as easy as it seems.

Whenever a person gets an idea for an invention, the first step that needs to be taken is to apply for a patent for that particular product. Technically it is called as licensing patent rights but is more commonly known as licensing the invention. The inventor has the option of completing all the procedures himself or to take advantage of professional invention licensing companies. The inventor can license the patent right to a particular manufacturer and then collect royalty. The United States patent office grants thousands of patent licenses every year for different inventions.

It is essential to consult an experienced lawyer before signing any license agreement. The license agreement includes provisions for upfront payments, royalty percentages and other infringement issues. Inventors can either give an exclusive license to a single party or a non-exclusive license to more than one party. Its then essential to make a list of potential manufacturers by visiting product related tradeshows, local stores, libraries and reference magazines. Certain online manufacturer databases can also be used to find an appropriate company.

A professionally written, brief marketing letter needs to be sent to each company for their approval. The letter should have information regarding the selling or licensing of patent rights of the invention to the manufacturer company. It is also advisable to attach a professional looking colored brochure of the product, along with the marketing letter to make a good impression. A specific website can also be designed for providing more information about the product and its inventor, which gives a professional appearance to the project. This will surely increase the chances of success for the product.

Thus, it is essential for the inventor to take great care to safeguard his interests and follow all legal and professional measures.

YouTube Remote app released, controls Leanback on GTV or PC from your Android phone

By Richard Lawler posted Nov 9th 2010 4:47PM We weren't completely in love with Google TV's YouTube Leanback experience when we gave the platform a run through, but that could change now that the YouTube Remote app has been released to the Android Market. Users pair the devices simply by signing into YouTube Leanback on the TV or PC and the app on the phone with the same account, then select a video on the phone and send it to the bigger screen with a press of a button. At least, that's how it should work. TechCrunch got a hands on with the new app and a new Topics sorting system for the site during a demo and found some potential, however trying it on one of our devices elicited a slew of crashes before we eventually got everything synced up and working. QR code's after the break so you can have a go of your own.

Update: Once we got everything rolling, we were able to get a better impression of the app. While it was a bit slow to open on our Galaxy S phone, once it is up, it worked smoothly, scrolling side to side through various queues of types of content and our favorites list. While the task of pulling up Leanback in a browser window or even on a Google TV device makes it ill-suited for viewing just one video at a time, where it excels is building a up a queue of videos and sending them over all at once. It will work on multiple screens at the same time as well, but there's no Airplay-style syncing to be had, if one of them starts to slow down or buffer it will simply continue lagging behind, and without any volume controls or ability to reahc other functions, you'll still need to keep other remotes handy.

    Q&A with Dr. Howard Murad

Q: I’ve always heard that I should drink eight glasses of water a day. But in your book you talk about “eating your water.” Why is eating your water better than drinking it?
A: What happens when you drink eight glasses of water a day? You are in the bathroom eight times – or more – flushing your system of vital nutrients. The best source of hydration is the water built into the structure of the foods we eat (structured water) especially raw fruits and vegetables. This form of hydration lasts longer since water is released slowly as you digest and doesn’t merely flush through. That’s why I encourage my patients to replace one glass of water a day with raw fruits or vegetables. Not only will they feel more hydrated, they will be getting more of the vital nutrients they need to build healthy, watertight cells, which are essential to keeping their bodies fully hydrated and operating at their peak.

Q: Will improving my ability to hold cellular water prevent me from developing chronic illnesses and diseases?
A: The Water Secret is not a cure for illness or diseases. Living according to the insights I offer in the book helps to create an Inclusive Health lifestyle that helps you create the optimal environment in your body to help fight illness and disease. At my practice, I see numerous patients who are suffering from a range of diseases in addition to their skin concerns. Many of my patients with cancer have adopted an Inclusive Health lifestyle and attribute their ability to withstand the rigors of chemotherapy to their improvement in overall cellular health. The Water Secret is not a cure but a guide to helping you become as healthy and strong as possible so you can live life to the fullest – no matter what your life may look like and at any age. By adhering to the guidelines presented in The Water Secret, you are aiding every cell in your body by giving them the best environment to thrive and become healthy.

Q: If I have a problem sticking to a diet to lose weight, how is The Water Secret different than a diet?
A: Although weight loss is a common benefit of living inclusively, The Water Secret isn’t a diet – so it really doesn’t create the physical and psychological burden of deprivation that a diet usually creates. To live inclusively, I believe that people should eat what they enjoy but also incorporate healthy raw fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and other nutritious food and dietary supplements into their daily meal plans. The Water Secret is not limiting; it is about small lifestyle changes that add up to a life transformation. In The Water Secret, I have included recipes and suggestions on how to integrate healthy, delicious foods into your diet to build the strong new cells you need to optimize your overall health.

Q: What is the overall philosophy of The Water Secret?
A: The Water Secret is a paradigm shift in truly understanding the aging process. In the book, I introduce people to a new way of looking at care that I call Inclusive Health® that optimizes the health of the whole person beginning at the cellular level. Inclusive Health accomplishes this through a 3-prong approach that addresses cellular health by focusing on topical, internal and emotional self care. This care is not focused on resolving or preventing one specific problem – but resolves problems in the context of making the whole body healthier. Inclusive Health is a unified way to look at health and aging. Every cell in your body is connected and if we can improve cellular health, we can make a dramatic change in our lives, our looks and even slow the aging process. I believe that with a little effort anyone can learn to live inclusively and feel as young as possible.

Sylvania's 7-inch Android tablet now ready to disappoint, swallow your $180

By Darren Murph posted Nov 9th 2010 1:25PM Not down with coughing up serious cash for a serious Galaxy Tab? Great news, Bargain Ben: you've got options. Joining the raft of cut-rate, low-priced tablets is a new one from Sylvania, which is humorously described as a "7-inch MID tablet." Details are scarce, but it's rocking Android 2.1, an 800 x 480 screen resolution, six-hour battery, 512MB of RAM, 2GB of Flash memory, front-facing camera and a microSD card slot. You'll also get 802.11b/g WiFi, a pair of mini-USB sockets, HDMI output and what we're assuming is a resistive touchpanel. We'd say the chances of Android Market access are slim to none, but for just $179.99, who really cares if it functions?

Wholesale Products - The Techniques of Introducing New Products For Your Business

What is the backbone of a retail business? Finding wholesale products certainly feed the retail businesses. Whether you are an eBay seller, thrift store or flea market seller, wholesaler or an online shop owner, you will definitely benefit from finding the right wholesale products that will leave your customers asking for more. All of these business people have something in common, though. This is their need to constantly update the products they offer, unless they do not want to have repeat customers who are always on the lookout for something new from the market.

Offering varied products in business will also help you maintain customers, as they wait for the next product you will offer, you get to keep their attention for your store as they wait. Just make sure you will have them wait for great new products at all times. Otherwise, they will be ready to go and look at other shops as fast as you could say the word FLY.

Having been in wholesale business all my business years, my experience has been a constant search for the next best product I can offer my buyers. Imagine if I stop offering them new products, they will search for them somewhere else. It has repeatedly been proven that people are in constant search of whatever is new and whatever most people do not have yet.

Wholesale suppliers also have a wide range of available products because of this strategy of finding innovative products they can offer to the market. But make sure that new products you plan to sell will fit the industry you are working in. Let us say that you have already built a large and regular clientele for providing electronic supplies, then do not instantly shift to not offering electronics and one day decide to shift into distributing cosmetics. Not only will you have to start from zero in establishing customers but you will also lose your hard-earned credibility as a seller.

If you have had fifty percent of your customers buying apparel from your shop, then you suddenly pull out clothing stocks replacing them with technological gadgets, then you will have to do a different set of research in the industry of electronics which is altogether different from the clothing industry.

Keep in mind that one reason of adding more products to your business is so that your customers will have a wide variety to choose from, not to convince them to be an accessories collector when they have been an avid electronics enthusiast. Also, make sure that the new products you are offering are breathers from the other designs, models or styles of your existing products.

It is also a key to visualize a business name that you would like to be known for. You want the customers to regularly come back for your products and so you want your business to be the first thing that will pop up in their minds as soon as they think about the industry you are in.

The British Monarchy launches official Facebook fan page

By Laura June posted Nov 9th 2010 6:13AM So, everybody has a Facebook page now: your parents, your next door neighbor's cat, and now even the Queen of England... or more specifically, the British Monarchy. Yes, the Crown of England has launched an official fan page for itself on everybody's favorite and most hated social network. Apparently, the page managed to rake in over 40,000 likes in its first hour of operation -- no small feat considering it took Miley Cyrus something like three days to get that many. Regardless, the Queen is posting tons of candid photos and we're hoping to get some videos of her getting crazy with the Cheez Whiz any day now; we'll let you know if / when they appear.

Apple buys Wi-Gear, getting into the stereo Bluetooth headset game?

By Tim Stevens posted Nov 9th 2010 8:36AM Apple appears to have bought Wi-Gear, getting into the stereo Bluetooth headset game?Apple hasn't always exactly been on the forefront when it comes to Bluetooth support, over the years creating quite an opportunity for third-party companies to make A2DP adapters for iPods and the like. One of those companies was Wi-Gear, which also made a stereo headset called the iMuffs and invited you to "Cut the cord and truly be free!" Sadly the use of such a device does not free you from the various responsibilities of modern day-to-day life, but an apparent acquisition appears to have helped the company's founders shed some of theirs. According to 9to5Mac, Apple has purchased Wi-Gear and brought the company's tech, and at least one of its co-founders, in-house. Michael Kim lists himself as an "iOS Bluetooth Engineer" at Apple now, while Wi-Gear itself has ceased operations according to its site. What's coming next remains to be seen, but if an Apple-branded stereo Bluetooth headset isn't the fruit of this partnership we'll eat our old A2DP dongles.

Hasbro's $30 My3D goggle accessory brings 3D to iPhone, iPod touch

By Darren Murph posted Nov 9th 2010 7:18AM Truth be told, it's exactly what the world needed. More 3D gimmickry... on the iPhone and iPod touch, no less. With over 125 million of those two devices in circulation, Hasbro's betting that a new accessory will have a greater-than-average chance at taking off next Spring, with the My3D goggles set to put the View back in ViewMaster. Purportedly, the toy firm is expected to fully reveal the device to investors later today, with it being "aimed at both children and adults" and offering a 3D viewing experience on games, virtual travel, augmented reality apps and entertainment content. The device itself resembles a set of binoculars, and just as the aforementioned ViewMaster, there's a slot where you place your iPod touch or iPhone. Users will have to browse the App Store for compatible My3D content, with some of it to be offered up gratis. We're guessing more than a few curious consumers will bite at just $30, but how hard would it have been to get this thing onto store shelves next month? A holiday opportunity missed, Hasbro.

Palm Pre 2 swims across the English Channel in three days, launches November 12th in the UK

By Sean Hollister posted Nov 9th 2010 8:45PM French citizens have been enjoying webOS 2.0 with their morning baguette for over two weeks, but it's one step closer to home today -- Pocket-lint reports that the Palm Pre 2 will launch in the United Kingdom this Friday. What's more, the 1GHz handset won't be chained to a British carrier, but rather released into the wild completely SIM-free, which probably means future Just Typists will need to buy it direct from HP. As for the promised pre-orders for US students, we're sorry to say they've failed to materialize; the Facebook page that once clearly stated "preorders begin 11/8" now simply reads "Palm Pre 2 coming soon." New Mobile Phones - Advancements in Technology and Design

As with everything part of nature or man made, there is a requirement of change. Change brings about improvement and advancement from the previous methods being followed. These changes bring about a necessary revolution as better arenas are developed thus creating a newer trend. The same ideology is followed in technology and electronic gadgets as they become obsolete after a certain period of time. They have a certain time period within which they function to the best of their abilities and beyond which they begin to lose their class. This obsoleteness can be due to old technology being employed or wear and tear of the body structure.

Mainly newer mobile phones are introduced to beat competition in your same niche and sometimes to continue the trend of improved technology going. This eventually makes a great situation for the end consumer as they are treated with ever improving gadgets and have a vast variety of phones to choose from. They can buy a product based upon any significant feature that they are looking for, according to price and according to its appearance too. This makes it hard for the manufacturers to make a complete device with all the necessary attributes so they come up with more gadgets to solve the problem. Some of the new mobile phones launched to fancy your needs and desires are Nokia N900, Xperia X2 etc.

Nokia N900 is a slide out full QWERTY based phone with an astoundingly superb display screen and startlingly brilliant features. The phone has 3G services along with supporting quad band network on GSM networks. It has physical proportions of 110.9 mm (length) by 59.8 mm (width) by 18 mm (depth) and weighs 181 grams. The display is its biggest positive with a TFT resistive touchscreen measuring 3.5 inches and capable of displaying a superb 16 million colours. Further features of accelerometer sensor and proximity sensor improve the quality of the display. 32GB of internal space and an additional storage of upto 16GB can be added by using a microSD card. It also has a 5 megapixel camera with Carl-Zeiss optics, auto focus, Dual LED flash, video light and Geo-tagging. It is also possible to record videos in WVGA quality at 25 fps. Secondary camera can be found and used in VGA quality for making video calls. Data connection can be instigated through GPRS/EDGE, HSCSD, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Infrared and USB. It would operate on a Maemo 5 operating system and have a processor speed of 600MHz.

Sony Ericsson X2 is part of the advanced series of Xperia phones. It has a quad band network on its 2G services and triband on the 3G network. Physical dimensions of 110 mm by 54 mm by 16 mm (length X width X depth) with a body weight of 155 grams. The display just like N900 is truly mind blowing with a size of 3.2 inches and TFT resistive touchscreen in nature. Maximum of 65K colours can be displayed on the screen which features a full QWERTY keyboard under the display, an optical trackpad, Xperia panel user interface and accelerometer sensor. Storage space of 110MB for internal capacity and external of upto 16GB using the microSD card. Pictures and videos can be captured in scintillating quality through its 8 megapixel camera and features of auto focus, LED flash, touch focus, Geo-tagging, face detection, image stabilisation and smart contrast. Videos are recorded in WVGA quality at 30 fps and secondary camera can be used for calling.

Kno prices tablet textbooks: $599 for single-screen, $899 for double

By Ross Miller posted Nov 9th 2010 12:25AM Looks like Kno kept to its "under $1,000" MSRP promise, after all, and by more than just a penny. The company says its flagship tablet textbook is still on track for release by the end of this year -- with limited available, at least -- tagged at $899 for the original double-screen model and $599 for the single-screener. Speaking to All Things D, CEO Osman Rashid estimates first-run production "in the thousands" and also claims ten as-of-now unnamed universities will be the first targets for the device. Less than eight weeks to go -- just worry about getting through fall semester finals for now.
